Project Medical Reform Association (PMRA) was formed to assist patients with gaining rights in the medical industry to help the process of maximizing insurance and tax dollars and ensuring transparency with medical appointments and hospital visits. PMRA aims to reform the medical system to allow patients to overcome less hurdles during and after care visits.  This endeavor also aims for peer support networks, reform in the medical notes systems, and better communication between healthcare workers and patients. We also aim to reform the erroneous records faster and easier.

Many people who face illnesses are left in a system that make then feel unheard and unseen. Patients are limited in what they can write in their own medical notes, and healthcare workers hold all of the power in what is said, creating a faulty system where patients have little voice in their own care. My proposed note reform aims to give patients back their voice so they can share their account of how they feel, what symptoms they face, their circumstances, and more about their medical history.  PMRA aims to promote hospitals to staff a patient advocate 24 hours a day, since emergencies are not limited to daytime only. We also promote Emergency Room lobby workers to be staffed 24 hours a day to ensure safety in the ER. We also aim to create a unique system that caters to specifically homebound and bedridden patients who cannot get tests done outpatient.

These changes may sound costly, but ultimately they can save more money. The average person with a chronic illness has to go to the doctor and hospital countless times before certain tests can be prescribed, costing more taxpayers’ dollars, more insurance dollars, and more private pay dollars. Many medically-complex patients get stuck in a loop of having to seek emergency medical services for conditions that have been left untreated due to not being able to get certain tests and having gaps in the system that do not cater to “unique circumstances.”
